VETERANS DAY

I watched the memorial service today from Fort Hood. Veterans Day will hold a special place in every ones heart this year. I have to ask myself am I doing enough to raise my kids to know how much others have sacrificed? I was raised in a Navy Town. San Diego is large but when those ships pulled into the harbor San Diego felt small town. The yellow ribbons and the flags. Sparky and I were dating when he was in the Navy. He was deployed to the first Iraq war. ( I didn't listen to my Dads warnings about those military guys. ) Sparky rented a house with 3 other Navy Boys. They were each others family. The guys even watched over me when Sparky was deployed.

Having 3 boys made me think someday I will send one of them off to war. This is the world we live in. And to say that this won't happen is living in a fairy tale. Coopers teacher has been sending her daughter off to Iraq. How completely overwhelming this task must be. And then the tragic lost of life at Fort Hood. The place where soldiers are suppose to feel safe. Life taken by one of their own. His reasons mean nothing to me. There is nothing but loss.

I will miss the call this year from a sister in law who always called on Veterans Day. She called to thank Sparky for his service. She passed away about a year ago. With that being said thank you to those soldier's and families who give so much.
