A PEACH OF A DAY
The best therapy I am finding these days involves picking fresh fruit. Can you guess what we did yesterday? My counter is full of peaches and I am not sure what I want to do with them. I know with the recent heat in these parts I don't want to can. So far we have had a peach cobbler to die for. I will try to freeze them. I recently have conducted spring cleaning on my freezer. ( a little late ).But I now have space. I found when my shelves, freezers are bare I must fill them. After picking peaches I had to go the grocery store and Costco. A billion dollars later my shelves and freezer looks better but still a little bare.
I mentioned therapy because I have issues. I have been worried about my oldest son who has a brain tumor. Although we have dealt with this since 2006; I never get over the fear. The majority of the tumor was removed in 2 surgeries back in 2007.Unfortunately, there is a portion of tumor we will never be able to remove with surgery due to its location near the hypothalamus. We watch the tumor with MRIs. So far its acting like a low grade tumor. But, as Cooper grows we have a 50/50 chance of it turning into a high grade tumor. Because of its location Cooper suffers from a seizure disorder that was unable to be controlled with medication alone. Last summer a Vagues Nerve Stimulator was place. This little wonder is implanted under the skin of the chest. Wires are thread around his vagues nerve. The VNS will then pulsate the vagues nerve. This action decreases seizure activity. We have a magnet and if Cooper feels a seizure coming on he swipes the magnet over his chest. This activates the VNS and stops the seizure or decreases the intensity. We have had the VNS turned up a few times and luckily it seems to work. In my heart I don't think we will ever be able to stop medication. That's OK. My boy is living his life and you would never know of the suffering this kiddo has gone thru.Just the same, when he is feeling off my thoughts go to a dark place. I begin to call the doctors number that is on speed dial. The nurses know my first name and a plan is figured out.
Little things are important. Peaches are important and the joy that is brought with them.
